Bridging the Gap - Creating Opportunities: Alumni Academy of University of Siegen, Germany on Urbanisation and Rural Development

Under the auspices of the University of Siegen, Germany Alumni Academy 2023/2024 on Urbanisation and Rural Development students of BA Honours in German, Department of Modern Languages are engaged in a research project titled “Bridging the Gap – Creating Opportunities”.  At present the pilot project on developing English language skills of school children is underway as a part of two course units in the BA Honours Degree Programme in German Studies conducted in English medium i.e., GERM 33564 Introduction to Technical Writing and Research Methodology, GERM 41563 Research Methodology.

The first workshop by one group of third year students Ama Seneviratna, Sanchana Samarasinghe, Hasini Pramodha and Pinsari Jayasundara conducting the project titled "English Fiesta" for 25 school children from Yashodhara Primary School, Kelaniya was held on 13th November 2023 at the Interactive German Centre in K14 building from 8.30 am to 1.30 pm. The pilot project concluded on 1st December. The project is led by Senior Professor Neelakshi C. Premawardhena, Director, Centre for International Affairs. Ms. Madhupali Cooray, Senior Lecturer, Ms. Indima Rajapaksha, Ms. Sasangi Wijewardhana Temporary Lecturers in German and Ms. Sanduni Iddamalgoda, Coordinator, Centre for International Affairs are assigned to monitor and support the project.
