STUDENT DEBATE II ‘Is Ragging a Violation of Students’ Rights’

The second debate conducted by the CGSUK, ‘Is Ragging a Violation of Students’ Rights’ took place on 7thOctober 2013 at the university premises. The two debating teams represented students from the Department of Sinhala and the department of Geography. The panel of judges comprised Prof. Kamani Gunasekara, Prof. Hemantha Sirisena and Prof. Ajitha Thennakoon. The event saw the participation of nearly 20 staff members and around 250 students mainly representing the faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences.The team who argued that ragging is a violation of student rights won the debate while the best speaker prize was adjudged to be Kushan Gayathra Perera. Certificates of participation were distributed by the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Professor Lakshman Senavirathna.


STUDENT DEBATE -" Women follow fashion based on their choice/other factors"

A friendly debate on “ Women follow fashion based on their choice/other factors” between two groups of students representing the Department of Mass Communication and the Department of Sociology was held on 06th May 2013 at K2 002. The panel of judges comprised of  Dr.Rev. Nedalagamuwe Dhammadinna Thero, Prof. Daya Edirisinghe and Dr. Pulsara Liyanage while Dr. Anusha Edirisinghe of Department of Sociology compeered the event. The debated consisted of 3 rounds, at the conclusion of which the team of Department of Mass Communication who spoke for the affirmative “Women follow fashion based on their choice/other factors” was declared the winning group. The certificates for participants were distributed by the Panel of judges.

A large gathering of students representing both departments and a several lecturers were present at the occasion.
