A student debate organized by the Center for Gender Studies

 

A student debate organized by the Center for Gender Studies was held at the Commerce auditorium on the 9th Tuesday, 2015 on the topic, “Can law alone prevent sexual and gender-based violence in Sri Lanka?” The debate was between the undergraduates of the Department of Mass Communication and the Department of Geography, University of Kelaniya. This event was coordinated by Dr. Anusha Edirisinghe, the Deputy Director of the Center for Gender Studies. Prof. Mangalika Jayathunga, Department of Fine Arts; Dr. Anusha Edirisinghe, Department of Sociology and Mr. Kapila Rathnayaka, National Organizer- Foundation for Innovative Social Development served as the panel of Judges for this competition. On the same day, a new programme for pro-feminist men named “Venasak Venuven Pirimi Api” was launched especially for the male undergraduates of the University of Kelaniya. Members of the Foundation for Innovative Social Development will serve as resource persons for this programme. Academic staff and students from the different faculties of the University were present in the event.
