A special discussion on preventing ragging 


A special discussion on preventing ragging and gender based violence in the university was held on 13th of May 2016 at the Ragama Faculty of Medicine auditorium.
It was preceded by Senior Professor Sunanda Maddumabandara the Vice Chancellor of University of Kelaniya and the main focus was on the long term and short term plans to prevent ragging in the university. Also the Institutes who participated in this discussion focused on programs and projects which they intend to conduct in the university in order to prevent this situation.
It was organized by the Standing Committee on Ragging and Gender Violence and Prof. Maithree Wickramasinghe, Non-Governmental organizations, members of the Human Rights Commission, representatives from the Standing committee of Gender Equality/ Equity of the University Grants Commission, Women’s Aid Organizations, Women’s Media Collective, Women’s Education and Research Center, Sri Lanka Police, Women and Child Protection Authority, Standing Committee on Violence against Women and many scholars participated in this discussion.
