Action Plan to Stop Ragging

A meeting resulting from the workshop on ragging and gender based violence conducted by the Standing Committee on Gender Equity /Equality of the University Grants Commission was held on 4 May 2016 at the senate room of the University in order to draw an action plan to overcome ragging and gender based violence on campus.
The main objective of this discussion which was organized by the Centre for Gender Studies was to draft an immediate action plan to combat ragging and gender based violence prevailing on campus and subsequently create a peaceful environment on campus.
The discussion which was presided by the Senior Professor Sunanda Madduma Bandara, the Vice Chancellor of the University was attended by Senior Professor Kumudu Wijewardena, Co- Chair of the Standing Committee on Gender Equity /Equality, Prof Kameena Guneratne of the Open University of Sri Lanka, Prof. Maithree Wickramasinghe, the Founder Director of the Gender Center and Professor of the Department of English, the Deans of all faculties, the Registrar, Student Counselors, members of the University Teacher’s Union, the Media Unit, wardens, marshals, security officers, Deshabandu Tennakoon, the Senior Superintendent of Police of the Kelaniya area, E. Jayasooriya, Senior Superintendent of Police, and officers of the Children and Women Bureau.
