A workshop on implementation of “green concept” organized by the Center for Sustainability Solutions (CSS) in collaboration with Staff Development Center (SDC) of the University of Kelaniya was successfully held on the 10th of September 2018 from 9.00am to 4.00pm at the auditorium of SDC.
The objective of the workshop was to increase awareness on green concept and sustainable development. A lecture on the “Implementation of green concept within the university” was delivered by Dr. U.P.K. Epa, Director, CSS of the University of Kelaniya. Lectures on “Carbon foot print” and “conservation of energy resources” were delivered by Dr. Rangika Bandara, senior lecturer, Department of Zoology and Environmental Management and Dr. D.S.M De Silva, senior lecturer, Department of Chemistry, respectively. Dr. Nayana Goonathilake, senior lecturer, Faculty of Medicine discussed the relationship between ‘Environment and Human Health’. After the lecture and discussion sessions a group activity on environmental issues in the University of Kelaniya was conducted. Dr. W.M.C. Bandara Wanninayake Director, SDC also graced the occasion. The members of CSS and 56 non-academic staff members representing academic departments of Faculties of Humanities, Science, Social Sciences, Commerce & Management and Medicine participated in this workshop.
