Solar power is the major source of power on the earth. All the other energy sources used in present practices are the sources that indirectly derived from the solar power. The most common energy sources being used today like gas, coal, wood and petroleum are biological material that derived their energy from the sun.

Capturing solar power directly for the daily activities is highly appreciable/ recommended, because it may provide lot of benefits in all aspects. Such as, it is a better option to the current demand for the resource, Environmental protection / non-polluting energy source (Reducing noxious, greenhouse gases, slow/stop global warming, protection of resources into some extent, etc.), abundance at any time any place.

University of Kelaniya uses solar energy in a small scale at the Faculty of Medicine.
