A commemorative stamp and a special commemorative cover issued marking the 50th anniversary of the Faculty of Science.

Parallel to the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Faculty of Science of the University of Kelaniya, a commemorative stamp and a special commemorative cover was issued on the 6th of October 2017 at the Senate room of the University of Kelaniya.

Mr. D.G.M.V. Hapuarachchi, the Secretary of the Ministry of Posts, Postal Service and Muslim Religious Affairs addressed the event as the chief guest. The event was participated by Mr. D.L.P. Abeyaratne, the Postmaster General of the Department of Posts – Sri Lanka, Professor D.M. Semasinghe, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Professor Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor B.M. Jayawardena, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Deans of the Faculties, Ven. Dr. Dodamkumbure Dhammadassi Thero, the Chief Student Counsellor, Professor P.M.C Thilakarathne, the Director of the Centre for Distance and Continuing Education and academic staff.

Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony for the 50th Anniversary Building – Faculty of Science

The Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of ‘the 50th Anniversary Building’ of the Faculty of Science was held on the 04th of October 2017 at the premises of the Faculty of Science to coincide with its Golden Jubilee Celebrations. The ceremony was held under the patronage of Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya.

This 50th Anniversary Building has 350 seats and its construction is expected to be completed by 2019. It consists of three main lecture halls, auditorium, discussion rooms for small group of students, student centered lecture rooms and a computer lab. This ceremony was participated by Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. B.M. Jayawardena, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dr. W.V.A.D. Karunarathne, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, the Venerable Maha Sangha including Ven. Dr. Dodamkumbure Dhammadassi Thero, the Chief Student Counsellor, Ms. U.T.M.I.D. Tennakoon, the Bursar, Mr. R.A. Gunapala, the Project Manager, Mr.K.A.P. Gunarathne, the works Engineer, the academic and non-academic staff members of the Faculty of Science and many undergraduates.

The donation of the personal collection of books of late Prof. (Mrs.) Ranitha Rathnayake to the Library

The donation of the personal collection of books of late Prof. (Mrs.) Ranitha Rathnayake to the Library was held on the 3rd of October at the Library Auditorium of the University of Kelaniya under the patronage of Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, the Vice-Chancellor. Late Prof. (Mrs.) Ranitha Rathnayake was a prominent professor who worked in the Department of Geography for several decades.

This event was also participated by Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Patrick Rathnayake, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Ajitha Tennakoon, Member of the Council of the University of Kelaniya, Mr. Premadasa Rathnayake, beloved husband of late Prof. (Mrs.) Ranitha Rathnayake and the academic staff members of the Department of Economics. The event was organized by Mr. L.A. Jayatissa, the Librarian and the staff members of the library.

HRM Soft Skills and Personality Development Programme

The inauguration of the ‘HRM Soft Skills and Personality Development Programme’, organized by the HRM Industry Collaboration arm of the Department of Human Resources Management was successfully held on the 29th of September 2017 at the Vice-Chancellor’s office, under the patronage of Prof. D.M Semasinghe, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Ms. Madhavi Shilpadipathi the Deputy General Manager – Talent Attraction, MAS Holdings Pvt. Ltd and Dr. D.U. Mohan, the Head of the Department of Human Resources Management of the University of Kelaniya.

This ‘HRM Skills and Personality Development Programme’ is a properly designed programme to sharpen the soft skills of the HRM students in adapting to and compete in the future world of HRM work. The programme will be continued for 15 consecutive weeks and its inaugural session was successfully held by Ms. Bernadith Jayasinghe, a reputed professional trainer for corporate personalities at the Ananda Patabendige Hall of the Faculty of Commerce and Management studies.

This programme is fully sponsored by MAS Holdings Pvt. Ltd and to be conducted by the trainers of the MAS holdings Pvt. Ltd. In appreciation of this effort of MAS Holdings Pvt. Ltd, a certificate of appreciation was offered to Ms. Madhavi Shilpadipathi by the Vice – Chancellor.

This event was participated by Prof. D.M Semasinghe, the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. D.U Mohan, the Head of the Department of Human Resources Management, MR. Ismail Salahudeen (Assistant Manager Group HR) and Mr. Prageeth Wanigasekara (Executive Group HR), the coordinators of this event from MAS Holdings Pvt. Ltd, Academic staff members of the Department of Human Resources Management and many undergraduates.
