Research provides a stage for creativity and innovation in our university system.
Innovative breakthroughs have happened only because of meticulous and persistent
efforts of the researchers. The University of Kelaniya allocates 2% of the generated
funds of the entire university for the functioning of the Research Council. The activities
of the Research Council include giving more visibility to the research work carried out by
the academics so that the results of their research are used for knowledge
enhancement throughout the world and encouraging academics to carry out high quality
research. The Research Council also promotes the establishment of international
research links with reputed universities and institutions overseas to enhance
collaborative multidisciplinary research, which will undoubtedly enhance the knowledge
and capacity of our academics
In order to fulfill its mission the Vice Chancellor Professor D.M. Semasinghe has
directed Research Council to continue all the successful activities initiated since its
inception and also to introduce new schemes that encourage academics who engage in
high quality research. The research that improves - the economy of the country, the
knowledge of the society, environment, food production, understanding and protection
of our cultural heritage and social values, understanding and control of medical
conditions or delivering of better health services have to be encouraged in the future.
