1st Virtual Inter University Taekwondo Championship 2021, first ever virtual live poomsae championship in Sri Lanka was organized by the University of Kelaniya in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association was held on 12th and 13th of November in zoom platform.

Opening Ceremony of the championship was held on 12th November in hybrid mode. Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, the Vice-chancellor of the University of Kelaniya was the Chief Gust of the Opening Ceremony and Senior Professor S R D Kalingamudali, the Dean of Faculty of Science and the Chairman of the Sports Advisory Board, Grand Master Ki Zu Lee, Chairman of the Technical Committee of Sri Lanka Taekwondo Federation, Dr. (Mrs.) Namali Suraweera, Senior Lecturer, Department of Library and Information Sciences, Mr. G G U Saman Kumara, the Actg. Director of Physical Education participated physically in the OC while Dr. (Mrs.) Chandrakantha Mahendranathan, President of Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association (SLUSA), Directors of Physical Education and Instructors of PE of other universities, competitors were participated online via zoom.

The Closing ceremony was held in 13th of November in virtual platform and same distinguish gusts of the opening ceremony participated in the CC via zoom and Facebook and YouTube live.

Ninety (90) Taekwondo players (44 men & 46 women) from 10 Universities, Colombo, Kelaniya, Moratuwa, Peradeniya, Ruhuna, Sri Jayewardenepura, Uva Wellassa, Vavuniya, Wayamba and Visual and Performing Arts were participated for the Championship.

Both men and women championships won by the University of Moratuwa. Universities of Kelaniya and Colombo won the 1st Runner-up of women and men championship respectively. University of Sri Jayewardenepura wan the 2nd Runner-up in both men and women.

Taekwondo Poomsae lively performed in a competition an online platform for the first time in Sri Lanka. Taekwondo players of universities performed their poomsae lively in their respective university venue or in residence and performance judged by the panel of referees of Sri Lanka Taekwondo Federation. Grand Master Ki Zu Lee, Chairman of the Technical Committee of Sri Lanka Taekwondo Federation. Technical Team of online platform headed by Dr Namali Suraweera, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Library and Information Science and Member of Sports Advisory board.

The opening ceremony and whole competition and the live streamed in Facebook and YouTube, is empowered by ICT Centre jointly with the Medica Unit of the University of Kelaniya.
