Program 08: " Soft Skills development Program" - Department of finance

 

 

The Department of Finance in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit, University of Kelaniya organized a Soft Skills development program under the theme of CV Writing, Facing Interviews and making attire important at Hotel Royal Park, Kiribathgoda on 3rd  July 2019 from 9.00 am to 3.30 pm.. A total of 120 students attended the program with the lecturers of the department and the guest speakers.

The first session was on facing interviews and making attire important which was conducted by Mrs. Renuka Tennakoon, Lecturer, Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. She emphasized the students the importance of good attire and also she shared the students how to face an interview successfully with confidence as processing only paper qualifications is not enough to compete in the job market.

Program 07: " Soft Skills for Life " - Department of Accountancy

Career Guidance Unit supports the soft skills development program “Outbound Training Programme” to Department of Accountancy. The Department of Accountancy in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit, University of Kelaniya organized a Skills development program for the third year undergraduates at Best Life Adventure Base Camp, Kithulgala on 11th December 2019. A total of 91 students attended to the program. The workshop commenced with a motivational talk on ‘Soft-skills for Life’ by the Key Trainer of Best Life Adventure Base Camp, Kithulgala.

Program : 06 "Skills Development Program"- Department of Human Resource Management

  Career Guidance Unit supports the soft skills development program “Skills Development Programme: for Third Year Undergraduates ” to Department of Human Resource Management The Department of Human Resource Management in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit, University of Kelaniya organized a  Skills development program at Hotel Winfield, Delogoda on 3rd July, 2019. A total of 65 students attended the program. The workshop commenced with a welcome speech by, Dr. M. P. N. Janadari, Head, Department of Human Resource Management. She noted that “This program is an important one as it addresses the gap between what university students learn and what is expected of them by their employers. Soft skills are a vital part of our life skills. Many of our graduates lack these skills which in turn makes it hard for them to stand out in such a competitive job market. Programmes such as this are considered with the highest priority and importance at the University of Kelaniya and many students do not get this opportunity”. She also express her gratitude to the panel of resource persons of the event.

Program 05 : “ Leadership and Team Building ” – Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit (CGU) organized an Outbound Training Program “Leadership and Team Building” on 30th October 2019 (7:30 am to 8:30 pm) at the Commando Regiment Camp, Ganemulla. This program comprised of various practical activities including shooting and base jumping sessions and catered to the improvement and development of personality, self-confidence, self-disciplines, leadership, and team working skills of the 2nd and 4th year Mathematics major students. 91 students were participated for this program and it was an amazing event that students have never experienced before. The student feedback confirmed that this workshop was really satisfactory and effective and also was really helpful for their career development.

All the participants were provided with a valuable certificate. 

Dr. KKKR Perera (The Head of the Department of Mathematics), Senior lecturer Jayantha Munasinghe (The Director of the Career Guidance Unit), Senior lecturers, Dr. Hansameenu, Mr. W. Katugampala & Lecturer Priyasad, participated in this event. 

 

 

 

Program 03 : " Trailblazer 2019" - Department of Microbiology

The Department of Microbiology organized the Soft Skill Development Programme “Trailblazer 2019” with the funding from the Career Guidance Unit of University of Kelaniya aiming to fill the gap in skill development of the undergraduates. This programme was successfully held on 7th of September, 2019 from 8.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. at the Hotel Winfield, Delgoda with the participation of 78 undergraduate students and 05 staff members of the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya.
