Senior Lecturer Saman Rajapaksha Assumed Duties as the Director of Communication and Media Unit

Senior Lecturer Saman Rajapaksha assumed duties as the Director of Communication and Media Unit on 16th of August 2021.

Senior Lecturer Saman Rajapaksha has completed Bachelor of Arts (Special) Degree in Mass Communication. Further, he was awarded the Degree of Master of Philosophy from University of Kelaniya. His research interests include Buddhist Communication and Asian Religions Study, Cultural and Language Communication Study, Media Research, and Print and Broadcasting Media.

He actively participates in many radio and television programmes as a resource person. He is an eminent figure in “Samwarshana” by SLBC Sinhala National Service - Swadeshiya Sevaya. His continuous contribution to newspapers in article writing related to Mass Communication is highly appreciated by readers.

A workshop organized for the provincial journalists by the Communication & Media Unit, University of Kelaniya was held on the 27th of December 2018 at the Auditorium of the Staff Development Centre. The prime objective of the workshop was to make the journalists of Kelaniya and Gampaha regions aware of the internal affairs of the University and expanding their knowledge on provincial journalism.

More than 50 provincial journalists representing both government & private sector radio channels, TV channels, newspapers and web sites participated in the workshop.

Cadre Chair and Senior Prof. N.P. Sunil- Chandra, Chairman- Research Council conducted a lecture on academic research while Senior Lecturer Dr. Manjula Gunarathne, Director- Statistics & Data Monitoring Unit conducted a data presentation on the University. The lectures on the administrative structure of the University and student welfare were conducted by Mr. K.B.S.L. Wijerathne, Senior Assistant Registrar and Senior Lecturer Noel Wijerathne, Acting Director- Student Affairs respectively. Prof. Rohana Lakshaman Piyadasa led the discussion regarding the responsibility of provincial journalists and the professional issues faced by journalists.

The event was held under the patronage of the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. D.M. Semasinghe. Present at the occasion were Senior Lecturer Wijayananda Rupasinghe, Director- Communication & Media Unit, Senior Lecturer Dhammika Bandara & Senior Lecturer Darshana Somarathne, Deputy Directors- Communication & Media Unit, Lecturer Mangala Pasquel and the staff members of Communication & Media Unit.

At the end of the workshop, certificates and souvenirs were distributed to all the participants.
