The Certificate Awarding Ceremony for the seventh cycle of the Sustainability Leadership Training Programme (SLTP) was held on July 30, 2024, in the Senate room of the University of Kelaniya. The event was attended by esteemed guests including Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Senior Professor Sudath Kalingamudali, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, the Registrar, and other academic and administrative staff members.
Dr. Wasanthi Subasinghe, Director of the Center for Sustainability Studies (CSS), emphasized the crucial role of sustainability education in developing future leaders while welcoming attendees. The Vice-Chancellor, Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva congratulated the students on their accomplishments and encouraged them to actively contribute to combating climate change and raising awareness about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
SLTP Coordinator and Deputy Director of CSS Dr. Pansujee Dissanayake outlined the SLTP program. The SLTP is an annual certificate course offered by the CSS to equip undergraduates with knowledge of the UN SDGs. The program also aims to cultivate a sense of volunteerism and environmental stewardship among participants. Mr. Sayuru Jayasekara, an undergraduate from the Faculty of Science, shared his experiences from JENESYS (Japan SAARC Network Program of People-to-People Exchange) - 3rd Batch: "Environment." Program, which he received through SLTP.
A total of 28 undergraduate students were awarded certificates during the ceremony.
