University of Kelaniya Representatives Participate in the 2025 World Chinese Language Conference

To further promote Chinese language teaching worldwide, strengthen international cooperation, enhance mutual connectivity, and advance cross-cultural exchange, the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China organized the 2025 World Chinese Language Conference from November 14–16, 2025, in Beijing.

With the theme of “Innovation Leads, AI Empowers: Learning Chinese without Borders.” The conference was jointly hosted by the Centre for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC), the Chinese International Education Foundation (CIEF), and the International Society for Chinese Language Teaching (ISCLT).

The University of Kelaniya was honored to participate in this global event. The delegation included:

1. Dr Sudath Senarath, Dean, Faculty of Humanities

2. Dr Wu Hongyuan, Chinese Co-Director, Confucius Institute

3. Senior Lecturer Sulochana Rathnayake, Sri Lankan Co-Director, Confucius Institute

Day 1 – November 14: Opening Ceremony & Institutional Dialogue

The conference officially opened on the morning of November 14th with a grand Inauguration Ceremony, attended by Confucius Institute directors and representatives from many countries.

In the evening, delegates took part in a discussion session focused on improving global Chinese language education, exploring strategies, challenges, and opportunities for the future development of Confucius Institutes worldwide.

Day 2 – November 15: HSK Examination Development & Academic Exchange

The second day centered on the theme of HSK examination reforms. Organizers introduced a new digital HSK application and discussed upcoming changes to the HSK testing system to better align with global language learning needs and AI-supported education.

In the evening, the University of Kelaniya delegation met with the Chancellor of Chongqing Normal University. Both sides exchanged views on strengthening academic cooperation and enhancing Chinese language teaching at the University of Kelaniya. The discussion was warm, productive, and marked by mutual enthusiasm for future collaboration.

Day 3 – November 16: HSK International Education Exchange Exhibition

On the final day, the delegation attended the HSK International Education Exchange Exhibition, where institutions from around the world showcased innovative teaching resources, digital learning tools, and new approaches to international Chinese education. Participation in the 2025 World Chinese Language Conference provided the University of Kelaniya delegation with valuable insights into global trends in Chinese language education, strengthened its connections with international partners, and opened new pathways for future development. The experience will greatly contribute to enhancing Chinese language teaching and cultural exchange at the University of Kelaniya.
