On November 21, the 9th “Silk Road Cup” Chinese Language and Culture Competition for Northeastern Thai Universities hosted by the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Khon Kaen and co-organized by the Confucius Institutes of Mahasarakham University and Khon Kaen University was grandly held at Mahasarakham University, Thailand. The Confucius Institute at the University of Kelaniya was invited to participate, joining more than 600 participants—including deans from various Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms in Thailand, representatives from the National University of Laos, Tanjungpura University of Indonesia, Chandrakasem University of Thailand, and twelve universities from Northeastern Thailand, along with their instructors, team leaders, and contestants—to compete and learn together.
This competition consisted of three major segments:
1. Knowledge Quiz
2. Recitation Segment
3. Talent Performance
In the knowledge quiz, contestants were tested not only on their Chinese language fundamentals and cultural understanding, but also on their quick thinking and teamwork. The atmosphere was intense and lively, fully showcasing the strong learning achievements of the participants.
During the recitation segment, contestants from each institution recited classics of Chinese literature with firm and deeply emotional voices, conveying a cultural resonance that transcended borders and bringing the beauty of poetry and thought to the stage. In the talent performance, the University of Kelaniya Confucius Institute team presented a creative paper-cutting runway show, earning enthusiastic applause from the audience. Through this competition, the University of Kelaniya Confucius Institute team not only achieved excellent results and demonstrated their unique style, but also identified areas for further improvement through interaction with other participating institutions. This valuable experience will help enhance our daily teaching and support continuous growth.
