On January 28 th 2026, a delegation from Guizhou University visited the Confucius Institute at the University of Kelaniya to strengthen academic and cultural cooperation between China and Sri Lanka. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Dr. Wu Hongyuan, Chinese Director of Confucius Institute at the University of Kelaniya and Mrs. Sulochana Rathnayake, Sri Lankan Director of the Confucius Institute.
The meeting began with Dr. Wu Hongyuan presenting a detailed overview of the development and achievements of Confucius Institute at the University of Kelaniya, highlighting the Institute’s work in Chinese language education, cultural promotion, and faculty and student exchanges between China and Sri Lanka.
Following this, Professor Hao Gefei from Guizhou University introduced the university’s collaboration with Peradeniya University to jointly establish a “Belt and Road” Joint Laboratory, sharing its background, research directions, and achievements. This demonstrated the practical cooperation between Chinese and Sri Lankan universities in science, technology, and education.
During the discussion, both sides explored opportunities for collaboration in culture, economy, agriculture, and other fields, exchanging ideas and experiences to promote mutual understanding and partnership.
Both parties expressed that the visit created an excellent communication bridge and affirmed their commitment to further strengthen collaboration, deepen academic and cultural exchanges, and enhance interaction in humanities, science, and education between China and Sri Lanka.
