o   Two training programmes on Tissue culture techniques (05 days) was completed

2)Providing a plant disease diagnostic service using modern molecular detection techniques

3)Providing guidance on value addition concepts to capture foreign and local markets to meet competition

o   Two programmes were held on plant diseases and plant tissue culture in Negombo, Katana, Divulapitiya, Mahara, Kelaniya  and Polonnaruwa

 

First batch produced a material of artificially pollinated Dendrobiums were distributed among forty-six plant growers.

 

 

6)Conducting research focusing on development and establishment of new planting materials of plant cultivars with market demand qualities

7)DNA barcoding endemic plant varieties with horticultural values and obtaining the authorships to the country

8)Researching on modern artificial culture media to grow new potential cultivars and create new cultivars through classical and molecular plant breeding technologies

9)Providing quality plant material and the guidance to establish small scale tissue culture laboratories

10)Advisory services in disease diagnosis

a.       Advisory services were extended to several plant nurseries in the district on their requests

b.       Several awareness programmes were conducted to the members of the plant growers societies in Gampaha District (Katana, Divulapitiya, Mahara, Biyagama, Marandagahamula, Adiambalama, Kelaniya, Dunagaha and  Kadawatha)

c.       Visits to forty plant nurseries and conducting awareness programme on nursery management

d.       In the process of establishing a Database on plant growers in the Gampaha
