Senhase Matra II – Phase II: Empowering Students Towards a Gender-Sensitive Environment

Maithreepala Senanayake Central College, Madawachchiya - The second phase of the Centre for Gender Studies' "Senhase Matra II" program took place at Maithreepala Senanayake Central College, Madawachchiya on November 22nd, 2022. Building upon the success of the first phase at Dutuwewa Maha Vidyalaya, this phase continued to provide students with valuable knowledge and skills to promote gender equality and a more inclusive school environment.

The program included the same diverse range of workshops for students of all ages, focusing on:

  • Early Childhood Development (Grades 6-9): Fostering healthy development and challenging traditional gender roles.
  • Cyber Violence Prevention (Grades 10-12): Providing students with resources and strategies to prevent and address cyberbullying and online harassment.
  • Skill Development for School Prefects: Equipping school leaders to promote gender equality and create a welcoming and inclusive school culture for all students.
  • Common Sessions: Encouraging students to consider higher education and providing information about university applications and opportunities.

The Centre for Gender Studies is dedicated to creating a more equitable and just society, starting with empowering young people to be agents of change. The "Senhase Matra II" program represents a critical step towards achieving this vision, fostering a school environment where all students feel safe, respected, and valued.
