On 4th August 2023, the Centre for Gender Studies, in collaboration with the Media and Communication Unit and the Faculty of Medicine, organized a Special Guest Lecture on the topic: "Inclusive Journalism and News Media Monitoring for Gender Advocacy: A Critical Evaluation of the Global Media Monitoring Project (1995-2020)."

Dr. Carter, a renowned expert in media studies, delivered an insightful lecture evaluating the Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP), which tracks gender representation in news media worldwide from 1995 to 2020. Her analysis emphasized the role of inclusive journalism and media monitoring in advancing gender advocacy across different cultural contexts.
The event, held at the Board Room, Faculty of Science, attracted a diverse audience, including students and faculty members from various departments of the University of Kelaniya. Participants engaged in dynamic discussions on the importance of gender-sensitive reporting and the potential for research collaborations in Sri Lanka.
The lecture not only deepened the understanding of media’s role in promoting gender equality but also laid the groundwork for future research partnerships aimed at enhancing gender advocacy through media monitoring in the local context.
