A Workshop on “Fire Safety”

The Staff Development Centre conducted a workshop on ‘Fire Safety’ in collaboration with the University Health & Safety Services (UHSS) Steering Committee for the Non-academic Staff of the University of Kelaniya.

The workshop was held on the 15th of December 2022 at the Auditorium of the Staff Development Centre.

The main objective of this workshop was to improve knowledge and skills related to fire safety among the staff as well initiating the creation of fire safety plans for university buildings.

Prof. Priyantha Epa, Head of the UHSS Centre conducted the first session of the workshop on “The importance of Fire Safety at the workplace and practices”. The second session of the workshop was covered by Mr. Namal Bandara, Chief Security Officer (CSO) representative on the topic of “Fire Safety at the University of Kelaniya”. The third discussion on “Fire hazards and Fire safety precautions” was presented by Dr. M.A.Y.L. Nadeesha, Department of Chemistry of the faculty of science.

The session was concluded with training exercises on “Fire Safety and Fire Prevention” by experts from Sri Lankan Air Forces.

The event was graced by Prof. Jeewantha Premaratne, Chairman of the University Health & Safety Services (UHSS) and Dr. Pavithra Godamunne, Director of the Staff Development Centre. While selected non-academic staff members representing all faculties and administrative divisions participated in this workshop.
