Workshop on ‘Adoption on Green Concept in Sustainable Laboratory Waste Management’

The Staff Development Centre conducted workshop on ‘Adoption on Green Concept in Sustainable Laboratory Waste Management’ in collaboration with University Health & Safety Services (UHSS) Steering Committee for the technical officers of the University of Kelaniya.

The workshop was held on 15th of September 2022 at the board room of the faculty of science.

The event was graced by Prof. Nilanthi De Silva, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya as the chief guest. In addition, the event was graced by Prof. Jeewantha Premaratne, Chairman of the University Health & Safety Services Steering Committee and Dr. Pavithra Godamunne, Director of the Staff Development Centre also addressed the workshop. 

Prof. Nayana Gunathilaka, Head of the UHSS Centre from the Department of Parasitology of the faculty of Medicine conducted the first session of the workshop, Waste management practices at the faculty of Medicine. The second session of the workshop was covered by Prof. Priyantha Epa, Head of the UHSS Centre of the faculty of Science. On the topic of “Adoption of Green Concept in University Waste Management.” The third session of the workshop was conducted by Dr. Wasanthi Subasinghe, Director of Centre for Sustainability Solutions. On the topic of “Sustainable solutions of Waste Management. 

 

The session was concluded with a discussion on “Way forward – plan of action to reduce laboratory wastage at UOK”. Dr. Chanaka Udayanga, Faculty of Computing & Technology and Dr. M.A.Y.L. Nadeesha, faculty of Science also contributed as a resource person to the workshop.
