History
The Centre for Strategic Planning & University Statistics was established per a decision taken by the former Vice-Chancellor, Senior Professor, Mr Sunanda Maddumabandara at the management committee of the Internal Quality Assurance Centre (IQAC) of the University of Kelaniya driven by the need raised by the former Director of IQAC, Senior Professor, Mrs NR De Silva.
Accordingly, establishment of the USDMU occurred on July 22, 2015, with two staff members, late Mr. D Amarasinghe, the consultant Statistician and Ms. Gayanthima Weerarathne, the Statistical Assistant. The prime objective of the establishment of the Unit was to align the staff information of both Academic Staff and Non-Academic staff and update regularly.
After six months of the establishment of the CSPS, since the management committee of the IQAC decided to demerge the unit to work independently, Senior Lecturer, Dr. Manjula Gunaratne was appointed as the Director of the Unit from January 2016. Thereafter, the CSPS has enhanced their working capacity and started several annual surveys and started to prepare statistical reports on key indicators of the University.
After assigning a permanent Statistician to the Unit in July 2016, the CSPS handles all the statistical requirements of the University. From 2016 onwards, CSPS is working as the key administrative entity for collecting information of the University for the annual Information for Higher Education Survey conducted by the UGC. Also, from 2018, the Annual Report of the University is prepared by the Unit. Apart from data collection and working as the central hub of information for the University, the CSPS also conducts customized surveys to measure key performing indicators of the University.
