A solid career plan that can provide a road map for your future is essential. Thus, your feedback will be used by the University to facilitate the guidance necessary for its graduates to plan their career paths and for future changes and improvements in the degree programs.
Graduate Employability is a crucial index of the economic development of a country because it is an indicator of the contribution of the educated population to the workforce of a country. Apart from that graduate employability guides the education system, how to comply with industrial requirements. Hence, graduate employability has become a key performance indicator of all Universities.
As a leading University, the University of Kelaniya has perceived the value of graduate employability and maintained an above-average rate for graduate employability. The University of Kelaniya has monitored and evaluated the graduate employability for several years. Also, findings have been used for a short-range and long-range plan to increase the quality of the University. Additionally, the University has taken some strategies to maintain a satisfying employability rate.

University Statistics & data Monitoring Unit annually collects information regarding the graduate employability within the first ten months of the completion date of the degree by the graduates. Using this information, the USDMU compiles a report which is then used in development programs by the University itself and by the UGC, as well as the Ministry of Education.
Overall, the employment rate of the male graduates is higher than that of the female graduates. And it appears that, there are visbile huge gap between the male employment rate and the female employment rate in most of the Faculties. However, in the Faculty of Science, female employment rate is 2% higher than that of the male employment rate.
50.4% of graduates are having temporary placements and 46.2% of graduates are having permanent employment. But when compared each Faculty, graduates of the Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies are having more permanent ocupatins than other Faculties.
64.15% of the employed graduates are working in the private sector while 22.64% and 9.43% are working in the government sector and semi-government sector. The lowest percentage is for foreign employment which is 0.38%.
Overall, these statistics show that 74% of unemployed graduates are trying to find a suitable job and 11% are not looking for a job. Also, 5.5% are continuing their highest studies and thus unemployed. Furthermore, considering all faculties, more than 65% of unemployed graduates are still trying to find a suitable job and more than 10% of unemployed graduates are not looking for a job due to some reason.
