100 Years of German Writer Franz Kafka celebrated

The Goethe Institute Colombo organized the "100 Years of Kafka" programme to commemorate the centenary of the German novelist Franz Kafka's passing. A poster exhibition Komplett Kafka (Completely Kafka) was inaugurated at the Goethe-Institute. This comic poster exhibition introduces German learners to Franz Kafka and his works through the engaging drawings of Nicolas Mahler and the medium of graphic novels. With the exhibition one can explore the timeless relevance of the themes Kafka addressed in his writing. The aim of the exhibition is to support German learners by providing cultural content that enhances their language-learning journey. The posters are in German, and trilingual brochures are available to make access easier.
On 11th December 2024 a programme was organized to commemorate the occasion including a guided tour by Dr. Asoka de Zoysa, retired Professor, University of Kelaniya, an excerpt reading from the Sinhala translation of The Trial, read by Nimka Udapola and the screening of the film The Trial (1963), based on Franz Kafka's novel. The staff and students of German Studies and the Centre for International Affairs were invited to participate at the event.
