German Days 2025 organised by the Centre for International Affairs, German Section of the Department of Modern Languages, and the University Library with the support of Goethe Institute Sri Lanka and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Sri Lanka celebrated on 28th and 29th January 2025.
Info Days on a journey through Germany's language, culture, study and career opportunities were held at the university library attended by the university staff and undergraduates as well as children from several schools offering German as a subject.
The German Days also marked the donation of a rare collection of German books to the library by Ms. Niluka Roshini Silva Greve of Seeduwa in memory of late Mr. Friedhelm Greve of Germany.
A Cultural Show held on 29th January at the Sri Dharmaloka Hall under the auspices of the Vice Chancellor Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva concluded the German Days celebrations.
Dean, Faculty of Humanities Dr. Sudath Senarath, Head, Department of Modern Languages Ven. Senior Professor Nedalagamuwe Dhammadinna Thero, Director, Goethe Institute Mr. Stefan Winkler, Head of the Language Department, Goethe Institute Mr. Rakitha Karunarathna, Regional Officer German Academic Exchange Service Ms. Nimaya Manudeva and the President of the Sri Lanka German Teachers’ Association Mr. Nadeesha Palliyaguru participated in the event attended by staff and students of the university, alumni of German Studies, staff and students of German from the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka and school children.
Certificates were awarded to the winners of the Creative Writing Competition. Activities organised by the Goethe Institute followed the performances of the students.
