Katharina Schmidt, a Masters student in Germany, is currently in Sri Lanka as an intern of Musaeus College, Colombo to teach German as a Foreign Language on a scholarship offered by the Goethe Institute.
An informative session with Katharina was organised by the Centre for International Affairs and the German Studies Section of the Department of Modern Languages on 4th November 2024 at the Interactive German Learning Centre in the K14 building. Students in the second year of BA Honours in German Studies took part in the session which commenced with a presentation by Katharina on life in Germany as a young adult, school system in Germany and study/ career paths afterwards bringing insights into her own experiences as an au-pair in New York after completing her school education, her undergraduate days at the University of Koblenz, Masters programme and the impressions of life in Sri Lanka since September 2024. Following a Q & A session a university tour was conducted by the students.
A visit to the Hela Bojunhala in the university at the end of the event was a highlight for Katharina who much appreciated the traditional Sri Lankan food offered at the outlet.
