More than 60 overseas China cultural centers and China National Tourist Offices invite locals to record a Chinese song Wishing You Stay Well, an adaptation of a Chinese poem written by Su Shi in the Song Dynasty. The chorus video will be sent online via Tencent Video and other major media platforms. Please share with us the joy of the mid-autumn festival, and wish everyone a happy and healthy time!

On September 21,2020,Confucius Institute at University of Kelaniya held a tea party for the important Chinese Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival. Ven.Prof. Nedalagamuwe Dhammadinna Thero, Mr. Sudath Senarath, Dean of Faculty of Humanities, Dr.Dilrukshi Rathnayake, Head of Modern Language Department were invited to the party. All the teachers in Chinese Language Unit attended the party. Acting Co - Director Dr. E.Jani Alwis Samarakoon and Chinese Director Prof. Wang Jun hosted the party. During the Mid-Autumn Festival party, some Chinese Bridge contestants this year brought us wonderful performance. The first prize winner in Chinese Bridge competition also showed us the beautiful video he made introducing his hometown Galle, which will be his entry for on-line Chinese Bridge Final in China this year. All the teachers in the party were impressed by their excellent performance. Chinese teacher Prof. Tang Ying displayed Chinese Tea Art, which enabled everyone in the party to get more understanding about Chinese Tea Culture.

 

Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival falls on October 1 this year, which happened to be the same day as Poya Day in Sri Lanka. On this traditional Chinese Festival, family members usually get together, eating mooncakes, fruits, enjoying beautiful full moon. It’s a time for harvest and family reunion. Therefore, on this special occasion, the Chinese teachers and local teachers and students are like family members, having a good time together.

July 6, 2020, the contestants from University of Kelaniya, after two rounds of intense competition, finally achieved great success in the 19th Chinese Bridge—Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students, Overseas Preliminary Rounds in Sri Lanka. 

The contestant Wei Ziying, with his touching, impressive speech and talents full of Chinese artistic charm, won the first place in the speech contest, and he also got the first prize in the network popularity award, and the comprehensive award.

 

 

Contestant Lin Yue, an melodious piece of "Phoenix Bamboo under the Night Light" enchanted the judges. Her speech is also novel, natural and reasonable, conquered all the judges, and finally won the second place in the competition.

 

 

Contestant Madhuka Nuwan Jayathilanka, with his unique drama skills, combined with Chinese mythological character Sun Wukong, performed a wonderful monkey drama, which surprised the judges, and finally won the first prize in the talent competition.

 

 

Chinese songs, traditional Chinese dances, Chinese knots, etc. showcase a charming cultural atmosphere in the hands of the students. It is reported that in the 19th Chinese Bridge—Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students in Sri Lanka, a total of 54 contestants from UOK participated in the first round of competition, 18 of them entered the second round of the competition. Congratulations to all the contestants for their outstanding achievements.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The inauguration Ceremony of ‘Chinese Rhythm and World Melody’ programme presented by the Students of the Gannang Normal University in China was held on the 12th of October 2017 at the Dharmaloka Convocation Hall of the University of Kelaniya. This programme is planned to be held in South Asian Countries. Among the South Asian countries, Sri Lanka is selected to host the first programme of “Chinese Rhythm and World Melody” programme.
The main purpose of the programme was to enhance the skills of the Students and to show their talents on the world stage. There were many singing, dancing performances, Chinese cultural presentations and creative presentations which were enriched with the talents of the students.
Prof. Qiu Xiao Yun, the Vice-Chancellor of Gannan Normal University, China, Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, the Vice-Chancellor and Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the of the University of Kelaniya, Dr. Kumari Priyanka Jayasooriya, Co-Director of the Confucius institute, Prof. Huang Jie and many invitees participated in the occasion.

 

The delegates from the University of Kelaniya including Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, the Vice-Chancellor officially visited the Chongqing Normal University, China on the 14th -18th of September 2017 to extend the contract for the annual exchange of lecturers and students between the University of Kelaniya and the Chongqing Normal University via the Confucius Institute.

This agreement was signed between Prof. Zhou Ze Yang, the Vice Chancellor, on behalf of the Chongqing Normal University, China and Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, the Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the University of Kelaniya ,Sri Lanka. In addition, a MoU was also signed to construct a separate building to maintain the Confucius Institute at the University of Kelaniya.

Thereafter, the delegates from the University of Kelaniya including Prof. D.M. Semasinghe addressed the students who are currently studying in the Chongqing Normal University. At present, 101 students have won scholarships under the guidance of the Confucius Institute, the University of Kelaniya to study in the Chongqing Normal University and they study different courses. The delegates also visited the Department of Mass Communication of the Chongqing Normal University.

The delegates from the University of Kelaniya comprised of Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lakshman Seneviratne, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rohana Luxman Piyadasa, the Director of the Communication & Media Unit, Dr. J.A. Kumari Priyanka Jayasurooya Menike, Co-Director of the Confucius Institute & Senior Lecturer of the Department of Modern Languages and Ms. T.M. Inoka Damayanthi Tennakoon, the Bursar.
