The month for literacy is widely known and celebrated all around the world. One can raise a question about what the importance of this month is. Obviously, if you are capable enough to understand this article, that’s because of your literacy level. In the month of September, the people learn about the importance of literacy in each and every territory in the island. The literacy month depicts the ability of reading and writing of a person of his language. It is a key factor to face society confidently. As this writer asked before, it is totally difficult and different for an illiterate person to stay in a world powered by literacy. The basic knowledge on reading and writing shows many more opportunities for a literate individual than for an illiterate person.

Literacy month gives a radiance on the usages of being literate. It embraces you. It could showcase your personality to the world. It is a crucial matter to understand the development of a country too. Sri Lanka has an embellished identity as a country with a higher literacy level in the South Asian region. One’s literacy level helps him in personal development. It affects the whole community as well. Literate person knows how to connect with people in a society. He communicates perfectly in the workplace in the corporate world. Literacy level upgrades his level out of the ordinary while giving many opportunities than an illiterate person has. Reading and writing ability is a fundamental capability of a human being. There is no surprise of not having to get the facilities improving it in this era too. Most girls and women face this issue specifically in the African continent and some parts in Asian continent.

Each September keeps giving a detailed attention on literacy. What one could do individually for cherishing the real essence of literacy? Of course, one could teach the basic skills of literacy as a volunteer. One could encourage and educate the importance and advantages of being literate to the community. Establishing book societies in a small manner is effective in a huge manner. 

Reading books critically improves the literacy level. This delightful month brings a bright lightness about the future of a community, country and of the whole world. A literate community could achieve sustainable goals in a well mannered manner. Let’s lead our lives into a fruitful juncture through a better literacy level for the development of our motherland!
