Eight University of Kelaniya Undergraduates Represent Sri Lanka at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games
Eight outstanding undergraduates from the University of Kelaniya proudly represented Sri Lanka at the XXXII World University Games – Summer 2025 (Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games), held from 16th to 27 July in Germany. They are part of a 30-member Sri Lankan contingent, which included 27 undergraduate athletes and 3 officials, competing at one of the world’s most prestigious university-level sporting events, which is second only to the Olympic Games.
Among them are eight undergraduate athletes from the University of Kelaniya; seven are undergraduates of the Faculty of Science, following the BSc Honours in Sports Science Degree Programme, and one undergraduate from the Faculty of Computing and Technology, following BSc Honours in Computer Science.
Their participation marks a significant milestone for the university, underscoring its growing reputation in nurturing sports excellence alongside academic achievement.

These athletes competed in athletics, swimming, badminton, table tennis, and taekwondo, demonstrating their capabilities and determination on the global stage.
The University of Kelaniya takes immense pride in their achievements and acknowledges their role in enhancing the university’s visibility in the international sports arena.
In recognition of their outstanding performances, Sandev Karunaratne and Sayuri Mendis were awarded two complimentary tickets offered by the WUGs organizers. The University generously covered all expenses —including airfare, visa fees, and food and accommodation fees for the remaining six (06) athletes. The University extends its sincere congratulations to the entire Sri Lankan contingent, with special appreciation for its own students, for their remarkable achievements and unwavering dedication to excellence.
