The inaugural of “Kalana 2018” at the University of Kelaniya
The inaugural of the Kalana 2018 Performances, Media Art and Literature Photography and Art Exhibition organized by the Arts Council of the University of Kelaniya was held on the 03rd 04th of December 2018 at the Art Gallery . “Kalana 2018” which is being organized annually with the objective of developing performances, media art and literature skills of the students was held for the 02nd consecutive time. The Inaugural was held under the patronage of Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice- Chancellor. Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor, Deans of Faculties, Senior Prof. Ariyarathne Athugala, President- Arts Council, Directors, Presidents and Heads of other Councils, Units and Centers, academic staff members, Mr. W.M. Karunarathne, Registrar, non- academic staff members and undergraduates graced the Inaugural.
Kalana 2018” Performances, Media, Art and Literature Competition
The first round competitions of “Kalana 2018”: Performances, Media, Art and Literature Competition organized by the Arts Council, University of Kelaniya was held on the 22nd, 23rd, 25th , 30rd and 31st of October 2018 at the university premises. This competition which is organized with the objective of developing art and communication skills also results in strengthening the collaboration among the undergraduates.
The event was held under the patronage of Senior Prof. Ariyarathne Athugala, Chairman- Arts Council, University of Kelaniya. Senior Lecturer Dr. Mangala Katugampola, Senior Student Counsellor- Faculty of Social Sciences, Senior Lecturer Mr. Noel Wijayarathne, Senior Student Counsellor- Faculty of Humanities, Senior Lecturer Mr. Aruna Lokuliyana, Head- Department of Mass Communication including its staff members graced the event.

Ceremony of “Kalana 2018”: Performances, Media Art and Literature Competition organized by the Arts Council of the University of Kelaniya was held on the 06th of December 2018 at the Dharmaloka Hall. “Kalana 2018” which is being organized annually with the objective of developing performances, media art and literature skills of the students was held for the 02nd consecutive time. The event was held under the patronage of Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice- Chancellor. Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor, Deans of Faculties, Senior Prof. Ariyarathne Athugala, President- Arts Council, Directors, Presidents and Heads of other Councils, Units and Centres, academic staff members, Mr. W.M. Karunarathne, Registrar, non- academic staff members and undergraduates graced the event.
Awards of appreciation were distributed to several celebrities in the field of Performances, Media Art and Literature. Accordingly, Award- Winning Prof. Sunanda Mahendra, Award- Winning Prof. Chandrasiri Palliyaguru, emeritus Prof. Somarathne Balasooriya, Veteran Actress Irangani Serasinghe and Veteran Dancer Vajira Chitrasena received the awards.
Awards, certificates and cash prizes were distributed to the students who won the first place while certificates and cash prizes were distributed to those who won the second and third places. Certificates were distributed to the other winners.
Shenali Nuwanthika Perera won the Kumarathunga Munidasa Memorial Award for the Best Poet (Sinhala).
Madushani Prasangika won the Martin Wickramasinghe Memorial Award for the Best Short Story (English)
D.P.D. Dissanayake and the group won the Chitrasena Memorial Award for the Best Group Dance.
Nadi Senevirathne won the W.D. Amaradeva Memorial Award for the Best Singer (Solo)
Anuradha Bandara the protagonist of “Kok Kaputu” drama won the Ediriweera Srachchandra Memorial Award for the Best Actor.
Yashoda Samarakoon Devapriyawon the Kumarathunga Munidasa Memorial Award for the Best Poet (English)
Miyuru Pabasara Dissanayake won the Solias Mendis Memorial Award for the Best Artist
B. Bandara and W.A.D.K.R. Wanigasinghe, G.M.S.S. Wijewardhane and G. Chathurika Sandamali won Chitrasena Memorial Award for the Best Couple Dance.
Christina Rovina Fernando and the group won the W.D. Amaradeva Memorial Award for the Best Singer (Group).
Wimukthi Akalanka Ariyarathne won the Kumarathunga Munidasa Memorial Award for the Best Lyricist.
Randima Prabodhini Kaluarachchi won the Wilson Hegoda Memorial Award for the Best Photographer.
B. Bandula won the Chitrasena Memorial Award for the Best Creative Solo Dance.
“Horu” short film directed by Pramod Chandima Rathnayake won the Lester James Peries Memorial Award for the Best Short Film.
Amila Madushan Wijethilake won the Martin Wickramasinghe Memorial Award for the Best Short Story (Sinhala)
P.G.C.G. Bandara Polkatuwa won the Dr. Premasiri Kemadasa Memorial Award for the Best Instrument Player
D.P.D. Dissanayake won the Chitrasena Memorial Award for the Best Classical Solo Dance
“Maha Muhuda” drama directed by Suwishmi Nirmani won the Ediriweera Srachchandra Memorial Award for the Best Drama under One-Episode Drama Category, Best Director and Best Actress
