University of Kelaniya Tennis (Men) Team Creates History with a Runner-Up Finish at the Inter University Tennis Championship 2026
The University of Kelaniya Men's Tennis Team etched its name into the university's sporting history by securing the 1st Runner-Up title at the Inter University Tennis Championship 2026, marking the team's first-ever appearance in the championship final.
The team enjoyed an exceptional unbeaten run throughout the tournament leading up to the final, delivering a series of dominant performances. The University of Kelaniya defeated University of Colombo in the group stage and walk over against Eastern University of Sri Lanka become the group champions. UoK defeated Rajarata University of Sri Lanka in the quarter-finals, and University of Moratuwa in the semi-finals, winning each tie convincingly by 3-0.
In the championship final, the team faced the University of Peradeniya in a highly competitive encounter. Despite a determined and spirited performance, the University of Kelaniya fell short with a 3-1 result, concluding an outstanding tournament campaign as 1st runners-up.
The unwavering support and guidance provided by the university's tennis alumni played a vital role in the team's success, and their contribution is sincerely acknowledged and appreciated.
