The University of Kelaniya proudly participated in the prestigious UNDP National Youth Dialogue 2024, held at Waters Edge, Sri Lanka. Representing the university were Tharindu Deshan Gunarathna, President of the Entrepreneurship Club, and Viraj Abhesinghe, Career counselor of the University of Kelaniya.
This annual event, a part of the HackaDev programme, is a flagship initiative by UNDP Sri Lanka, focusing on youth empowerment and engagement. It brought together policymakers, young entrepreneurs, and stakeholders to discuss pressing challenges, opportunities, and priorities for youth in Sri Lanka.
The discussions at the event revolved around critical themes such as:
- Digitalization and its role in empowering youth-driven initiatives.
- Reducing corruption to foster transparent and sustainable business ecosystems.
- Promoting eco-friendly business models in line with global sustainability goals.
Tharindu Deshan and Viraj Abhesinghe actively contributed to the consultations, sharing perspectives on the challenges and opportunities faced by young entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka. Their insights, along with contributions from other participants, aim to shape future policies and programs that empower youth across the nation.The event also facilitated meaningful connections between young leaders, mentors, and stakeholders, highlighting the importance of collaboration in driving impactful change.
