The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the University of Kelaniya and Bug Zero - ScoreLabs conducted a Freelancer Development one day workshop as part of the Lighting Digital Initiative, the first one of a series of workshops, focusing on Bug Hunting on the 2nd of December 2022 at the CGU auditorium. This is the first time a workshop on bug hunting was conducted at UoK by ICTA.
36 registered undergraduates from the faculties of Humanities (27), Science (2), ICT (7) took part in the training.
The main aim of the workshop was to train undergraduates to develop necessary skills to be freelance bug hunters and also to provide opportunities to join the ICT workforce in the country as a freelancer.
This programme is expected to enhance skills, attitudes, and participants’ socioeconomic status by providing the required knowledge and hands-on experience to be successful freelancing bug hunters and to empower them to overcome unemployment and poverty. Further, it is expected to encourage them to choose freelancing as their career path, enhance their digital competencies and build capacities and promote digital entrepreneurship.
